It looks nice, but on close inspection there are some quality (and quality control) issues.The base is very heavy (this is good) and the lamp is very hard to tip over. There are two brightness levels that are controlled by a rotary knob. The illumination is fairly directional (straight down) with the illuminated area being about 30 inches across. This provides good illumination of the work area of a desk. Because it is directional, it does not provide much light for the rest of the room. It is not meant to.
My lamp came with a white frosted lens. I would have preferred the green one in the picture. There were many small imperfections in the paint confirming that this is not a high quality product. Also, the rotary knob is cheap plastic and the paint on the knob was not uniform.
It is a halogen light, so it gets very hot, especially on the brightest setting. For a desk lamp, this could be very dangerous and THIS LAMP SHOULD NOT BE USED AROUND CHILDREN.
