I purchased this bulb from Target and it works for its purpose (as an outdoor lantern light) but I am disappointed with the technology. I'll make a quick comparison to illustrate this.

This GE LED bulb cost around $15 per bulb and is guaranteed for 4 years (the package say "last 8 years" but the guarantee is only for 4 years) that is $3.75 per year just for the purchase which is pretty high. This bulb uses 2.5 watts to produce 80 lumens of light. That's 32 lumens per watt, not bad but not great. Also this bulb is not intended for "enclosed fixtures" so it is no better than a CFL in this regard and not as good as an incandescent.

Now compare that to a Sylvinia CFL I just bought. It cost $7 per bulb and is guaranteed for 13 years, which is $1.85 per year for the cost of the bulb. Not too bad. This bulb uses 5 watts to produce 200 lumens which are 40 lumens per watt. This means the CFL is 20% more efficient than the LED. The down side is that this bulb is also not for "enclosed fixtures" and does take a while to "warm up" before it is producing full light.

In the end the Sylvinia CLF is more efficient, it is guaranteed for 9 more years that the LED, and the CLF is half the cost.

In theory LED's should produce more lumens per watt than a CFL, and should not be as effected by enclosed fixtures because they don't produce as much heat as CFL's but that technology isn't captured in this bulb.

I won't buy another LED bulb like this until they have made major improvements on output, longevity, and brought down the price.
