Basic Polished Steel Finish Engineer Halogen Torchiere Floor Lamp Review

I've loved halogen torchieres ever since they appeared in the 1980s. When I started at my current company in 2006, I asked for one in my office, to avoid the headaches I get after an hour or two of the 60/120 cycle flicker of fluorescent lamps. This model is the one I got. Now, almost everyone on the floor has one, and the fluorescents get little use.

This 180w unit does not have the high maximum brightness of the old 300w and 500w units available in the 1980s and 1990s. However, it's fine in my office, where I'm working at an LCD display. In fact, I usually have it turned down half way, using the smooth, full range dimming switch.

Eventually LCD lamps will probably provide flicker free light that's even more efficient than fluorescents. Until then, though, this halogen lamp is a good, inexpensive solution for general purpose room lighting.

The light isn't bad. For the money I suppose it is not terrible, but the quality is honestly not all that great. The materials are in between cheap and quality - with one exception. The vertical post is shipped in several pieces, and the machining for where they join is very very cheap and of poor quality. For all practical purposes it is a compression fit rather than being well machined threads, and I was not happy with that part. I would not consider purchasing another one of these, but they are not bad enough to send it back. I have bought far higher quality lights for less.

We purchased this Sandusky Lee cabinet for use as a tool cabinet in our garage work room. It isn't as heavy-duty as the description indicates as its 24-gauge steel body may show dings and dents from transit and ordinary use. (It compares with some of the less expensive filing cabinets you might find at a big box office supply store.) The overall construction is high quality and would be improved with thicker body panels.

The included shelves are well made, and seat inside the cabinet on small steel clips, easily supporting 120+ pounds per shelf in our application. If you intend on moving lots of tools in and out, be prepared for dings and scratches. But in terms of value for money, this can't be beat.

Important to note: this cabinet sits directly on the floor, with no feet or legs, allowing for heavy items to be placed directly on the loot of the shelf. If moisture is a concern, you may want to consider installing a thin sheet of ply or other material between the shelf and the floor, which will also protect your floor.

The cabinet also has a two pin locking system which secures the right side door: when opened, the left door does not stay shut. This is easily addressed with a small utility magnet to the upper corner of the door, similar to how you might use a magnet to hold closed a kitchen cabinet. The keyed lock is inexpensive and could be easily defeated but is suitable for our use in keeping small children out of our tools and work items. All in all, I would buy this unit again without hesitation for our use.

This is a good quality, made in USA cart. Takes a litle while to bolt together. I had a little trouble with it tending to warp a little (and rock on two wheels) the first time I really tightened the bolts. I am an avid cross stitcher and have been aided by a magnifying light for the last 20 years. I am on at least my third, since I wear them out with constant repositioning. This is definitely the lightest weight and easiest to manipulate. This is also the first I have had with a toggle on/off switch rather than a push button. This folding table is much nicer than the image suggests. In the picture, it looks as if the legs aren't completely straight, but that's not the case -- the high-quality locking hinges extend fully. When in use, the table is stable and steady, and when collapsed requires very little storage space. A beautifully simple and functional alternative to wobbly aluminum TV trays, which is our use for them. Well worth the cost, and highly recommended!
