Safco Height-Adjustable Split Level Drafting Table Review

As others have said, this would be a great product if not for quality control problems. There are four knobs that screw in to hold the desk at a set height. The nuts that these screw into are messily welded onto the leg and sometimes are welded such that the knob does not screw in, rendering the desk largely useless without serious rigging.

The table requires significant assembly and it's rather disappointing when things don't work in the end. It's also extremely heavy, so the prospect of disassembling and return shipping is unacceptable.

I will see if Safco will replace the defective leg and revisit my review assuming they handle this promptly.

Fire your quality control manager and get this right next time!

One more issue, as pictured it appears the rear platform goes much higher than it actually does. I would prefer if that were adjustable at least a few feet higher.

UPDATE: Safco says they have no replacement parts and directed me to return the table to Amazon. This means I must either deal with the defective they sent me, or disassemble this heavy product, return ship it, then assemble a new one. My first Safco product - probably my last.

Fellowes Professional Series Sit/Stand Keyboard Tray, Black (8029801) Review

The mechanism is absolutely wonderful. You get a heavy-duty all-steel mechanism that slides out from under the desk and articulates from a sitting to standing position, just as advertised. I use it with a TreadDesk treadmill , which is built so you can roll a chair over it. So I can sit at my chair for 1/2 the day, roll it out of the way, raise the keyboard tray, tilt my monitors up and stand or walk until I get tired.

That being said, the tray itself, especially the mouse tray, is flimsy and, I thought, unusable. You can't press down on it as you work, and the mouse tray is such a piece of junk that it's almost impossible to roll the mouse without it bouncing uncontrollably.

Solution? I cut a piece of 5/8" plywood, cut it to 11 3/4" x 26" - painted it black and screwed it to the Fellowes mechanism instead of the flimsy tray. What I have now is a very solid work surface large enough for a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard and a vertical mouse, and it stays solid no matter what position I put it in. The tray tilts, too - a nice feature of the mechanism is that you can tilt the tray as you wish and lock it into position. I change the height and the tilt from time to time to relieve some stress on my hands and wrists, and that's a great thing considering how much time I spend at my desk each day.

It's a shame that Fellowes can't built a tray worthy of the mechanism. But if you're willing to cut your own tray, it's a really great item.

I really like this stand. It is constructed of mostly(except casters) heavy gauge steel, which is rare in these days of plastic assemblies. No instructions came with mine, but the picture is self explanitory. I bought it to hold a heavy APC UPS. It can adjust down to 5" in width which is smaller than the UPS width (perfect).

Innovex Orbit Desk, Black/Clear Review

This is an awesome desk! The setup was very easy and the instructions were intuitive. The 1/2" thick glass is tempered, heavy, and durable. It's kind of hard to imagine how thick 1/2" of glass really is until you see it in person -- it's THICK -- which makes for a durable surface for heavy items. This is one of the best looking glass desks out there, with the rounded shelves on one side. I chose not to install the glass stand on top of the desk since I am using my 27" iMac on it, and prefer to just set it on the desktop.

PROS:

+ Beautiful in aesthetics, modern glass desk, complements modern computers, especially the aluminum and glass iMac's out there.
+ Tempered 1/2" thick glass is not going to break anytime soon and can hold a lot of weight.
+ Rounded shelves on one end for item display, or ready-item storage.
+ Powder-coated steel legs on one side, chrome accents.
+ Easy to assemble, durable once fully assembled.
+ CPU shelf (optional install) and monitor self (optional install).

CONS:

- You'll have to clean this (or any other glass surface) frequently.
- The glass may be tempered, thick, and difficult to break, but it is not difficult to scratch. You'll have to be careful of putting metal items on it, it will scratch fairly easily.
- If you don't install the glass stand on top, the holes for the stand are going to remain visible. I have items covering them (go-flex backup drive, speaker volume controller), so they are not noticeable.
- The asking price on Amazon. I didn't buy this from Amazon. If you want this desk - look around, you can get it cheaper from other places. I only paid $220.00 for it with free shipping.
- Keyboard tray is not large enough for a standard sized keyboard AND a mouse. It's only wide enough for a standard keyboard. HOWEVER -- You could use the new Apple wireless keyboard and a mouse, but not a full 102 key keyboard and mouse.

This is the perfect desk for me - simple, beautiful, and very complementary in aesthetics to the modern iMac, which is why I bought it. If you have many wires (regular PC's) this may not be the desk for you... there is nothing on the back to hide the running wires. For iMacs, or possibly other all-in-one computers with only one or so wires, it's not really an issue. This would also make a great laptop desk.

Overall - highly recommended.

Nice plastic drawer with no sharp edges or corners, all metal ball bearing slides are very smooth with just enough resistance so it won't slide in with an accidental light bump, will fit a keyboard up to 19-1/8" wide, plenty sturdy for it's purpose, not meant to be leaned or sat on, but very steady for typing. I purchased this light happily, because I thought it was going to be really bright for a corner I wanted to illuminate. Unfortunately, after it arrived, I noted that it only takes a 60 Watt bulb, max. I was disappointed, but decided to keep it anyway, just because it works with my decor. The metal is a bit cheapish, the fabric shade is nice. All said and done, it's a nice enough light and looks cool. The best feature is the on/off switch which is on the electrical cord and you can step on it to turn the light on and off.
