I chose this lamp over other magnifying lamps that I was considering because it is advertised as having a "daylight" bulb. This lamb does *not* have a full-spectrum bulb. It is a normal 12-watt fluorescent bulb, type T-4.

The construction is all plastic except for the internal heat shield and glass lens. Even the base housing is plastic, but there is some weight in the base for stability - probably the ballast.
