Back shelves are too high for a monitor, unless you have a really tall chair.
I bought this desk to replace an aging prefab wood desk & hutch that had served me well for many years. I was drawn to this one because of the tower stand on the side. I have a pretty powerful PC that runs hot, so keeping it in a cubby hole is terrible for temperature regulation, and having it under the desk just blows all the hot air on my legs. This one solved that problem and looked swanky, to boot.
During assembly, I noticed a few damaged parts. There was a small nick in the wood on the keyboard tray, which I covered up with some black electric tape. One of the back shelves, part E, had one of its sliders off. The screws were ripped right out of the wood, so I had to superglue the piece back on. It's fine for now, but I know it's going to give me grief in the future. There are also brown smudges (rust?) on the metal part of that piece that won't come off.
Assembly was a breeze, and I like how the stand and the shelves can be switched around to either side. The monitor I had to place on the glass piece since putting it on one of the shelves was too high for me. My full tower PC fits snugly on the stand, and despite the picture above, there is a little leg propping it up.
My major complaint has to be the keyboard tray. For one, it is too small; I can't fit both a keyboard and a mouse+pad on it, though I believe a keyboard and a trackball would work just fine. I have to leave part of the keyboard hanging off the edge in order to use the mouse properly. Also, one side does not slide out all the way, which causes the tray to wobble when in use. It kind of feels like something is pulling it back, and when I went to take a look to see if anything was in there, I noticed grease all over my hands. Apparently they greased up the rails to get it to slide easily. It took me a while to get that stuff off scrubbing with soap and water, and I haven't played around with it since.
Overall, I like this desk. Had it not been for the KB tray nonsense, this would have been perfect for my needs.
